The Texas Longhorns secured their first-ever NCAA softball championship by defeating Texas Tech 10–4 in Game 3 of the Women's College World Series Finals on Friday night.
Texas jumped out to a commanding 10–0 lead, fueled by Leighann Goode’s three-run homer in the first inning and Mia Scott’s grand slam in the fourth. Texas Tech’s heavily-used ace NiJaree Canady was pulled after allowing five runs in the first.
Longhorns pitcher Teagan Kavan delivered a stellar performance throughout the tournament, earning Most Outstanding Player honors after pitching 31⅔ innings without allowing an earned run.
This victory marked a historic milestone for head coach Mike White and the Longhorns, who had previously fallen short in the finals in 2022 and 2024. | ⚾ D-Backs Ace Burnes to Undergo Tommy John Surgery |
Diamondbacks ace Corbin Burnes will miss the remainder of the 2025 MLB season after being diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, necessitating Tommy John surgery.
The 2021 Cy Young Award winner had been performing exceptionally well in his first season with Arizona, posting a 3-2 record with a 2.66 ERA and 63 strikeouts over 64⅓ innings.
Burnes exited his June 1 start against the Nationals in the fifth inning due to elbow discomfort, and subsequent evaluations confirmed the severity of the injury. |
